After a full year’s preparation and hard training, five local players, out of a squad of 12, were selected to don the national colours at the World Cup.

Willie Brink, Jacques Else, Quintin Lubbe (captain), Donavan van Vuuren and George Viviers flew the Benoni and Eastern Gauteng flag against the likes of Australia, New Zealand, England, the UAE, Singapore, India, Sri Lanka and Malaysia.

South Africa did extremely well by ending third overall.

Lubbe received his 50th national team cap at the tournament, while Brink was announced as the Player of the Tournament.

“Congratulations to all our players who participated in the 2017 Indoor Cricket World Cup,” said Christine Straussner of the Benoni Action Arena.
