Wet weather a frustration for BNCC Prems, Promos win

Benoni Northerns Cricket Club’s (BNCC) Premier XI only managed to bowl 6.5 overs against Tembisa in their first 50-over Eastern Premier League fixture on Sunday, October 22.

A delayed start, due to a wet A-Field wicket from the evening’s rainfall, was interrupted by afternoon rain and the match was subsequently abandoned, meaning that both teams would share ‘rain points’ (two points apiece).

Meanwhile, skipper Twayne Stewart and his BNCC Promotion League XI took on league newcomers Geluksdal across the road on the B-Field.

Their match was also slightly delayed due to a wet wicket, but the damp areas were soon dried up.

Bowling first, BNCC bowled out their opponents for 166 runs in 36.5 overs.

A familiar face in former BNCC Premier XI player and now Geluksdal chairman, Logan Fortuin, was the top-scorer for his team with 68 runs.

Stefan Jordaan was the pick of the BNCC bowlers with figures of 4/37 in nine overs, followed by FG Dorfling with figures of 2/12 in 7.2 overs.

With the willow, BNCC’s Richard Thompson (57 runs) and veteran Mark Robey (43 runs) took the game away from their opponents with some big hitting.

Despite the loss of four wickets, Stewart’s men eased to a six-wicket victory in the 27th over.

It is the team’s second victory in the Promotion League after they beat Bedfordview away by 107 runs the weekend prior.
