Not only did the SuperSport United (SSU) striker and former Benoni High School learner set up a goal and score in the penalty shootout in the victorious MTN8 Cup final against Cape Town City in Durban on October 14, but he also scored a brace of goals in the club’s 3-1 second leg semi-final victory over Club Africain in Tunisia (4-2 on aggregate) on October 22.
This booked SSU a place in the CAF Confederation Cup two-legged final against defending champions TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Grobler’s first goal of Sunday’s clash was a bullet of a header that will be remembered for some time.

TP Mazembe is the second most successful club in CAF competitions with 10 titles.
They host the first leg on November 19 in Lubumbashi in the DRC with the return match a week later in Pretoria.
Grobler told the City Times last week that it “felt really good to start the season with a trophy [the MTN8].”
“Normally, we end the season with a trophy so to win one early on in the campaign is awesome.”
Speaking about that penalty shootout in Durban last weekend, Grobler said: “I have been fortunate that in the six years that I have been at SSU we have not lost a penalty shootout.”
Grobler himself has never missed a spot kick in a shootout.
The Benonian said that Sunday’s semi-final in Tunisia was a huge game for himself and for South African football in general.
“We have given up a lot to get there and now we are one step away from the title.
“We want to lift every trophy we can and we have good enough depth to do so.”
SSU has only played four matches in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) as a result of their cup and continental commitments (league-leaders Baroka have played nine matches in comparison).
“It has been ridiculously busy and travelling into Africa does take its toll, but, as a player, you want to be playing as much football as you can.”
The striker is certainly the man for the big occasion.
He also scored a brace of goals to help his club lift the Nedbank Cup trophy against Orlando Pirates in June.
He has also been in coach Stuart Baxter’s Bafana Bafana squad in recent World Cup qualifiers.
“I am really enjoying my football at the moment,” said Grobler.
