Raining on the T20 parade

Weather played a big factor in the T20 results of local cricket clubs, Benoni Northerns and Actonville Spurs, in the second round of pool matches in the Eastern Cricket Premier T20 Competition on October 8.

Both clubs achieved wins in their double-headers on the prior weekend of October 1.

In Pool A, Actonville played the always strong Kempton Park in the first of their scheduled fixtures at Willowmoore Park’s C-Field.

Batting first, Kempton Park piled on 217/4 in their 20-over innings.

Despite the best efforts of Actonville’s skipper Michael Enslin (46 runs from 23 deliveries) and Imraan Manack (64 runs from 33 balls) with the willow, Actonville could only reach 169/4 in their reply, giving their opponents a 48-run victory.

Their second clash of the day, against KwaThema, was rained out.

They will next play United Cricket Club at Lords Cricket Grounds at 9.30am on October 15 with a slight chance of making the afternoon semi-finals.

Benoni Northerns Cricket Club’s (BNCC) Premier XI did not bowl a ball against Pool B rivals Alberton due to a wet CBC A-Field pitch in Boksburg on Sunday morning.

Both sides shared two points each.

BNCC did eventually get some cricket in on Sunday afternoon, namely 20 overs with the ball against Boksburg on CBC A, but the rain came down and no result was possible.

They will be hoping the weather plays along nicely in their final pool game against Springs Old Boys at CBC A on October 15 at 9.30am ahead of the semi-finals at 1.30pm in the afternoon.
