Bangladesh tour of South Africa begins in Benoni

The three-day warm-up match, played between the touring Bangladesh against a Cricket South Africa (CSA) Invitation XI, at Sahara Park Willowmoore from September 21 to September 23, ended in a draw.

The CSA Invitation XI, comprised mainly of CSA Academy and second-tier first-class players, made 313/8 declared in reply to the Bangladeshi first innings total of 306/7 declared.

The Tigers’ second innings saw them reach 235/9 declared.

Both teams decided that the home side would not bat their second innings with just over two hours of play remaining on the final day.

Titans’ player Shaun von Berg claimed four wickets to hamper Bangladesh on the final day.

The leg-spinner claimed four wickets for 77 runs in the second innings.

Star Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal did not bat in the second innings after suffering an injury scare.

He retired following some discomfort in his right thigh, but he is expected to be fit for the first Test match against the Proteas at Senswes Park in Potchefstroom on Thursday.

The Willowmoore wicket was flat and slow, which made life difficult for the Bangladeshi seamers.

Scores in brief: Bangladesh 306/7 declared (first innings) and 235/9 declared (Sabbir 67, Kayes 51, von Berg 4/77) drew with Cricket South Africa Invitational XI 313/8 declared (von Berg 62, Hamza 60).
