Club cricket season gets going with T20 competition

The 2017/2018 Eastern Cricket Union club season gets started this weekend with the Eastern Premier T20 Competition, which starts on October 1.

The Premier League sides of local cricket clubs, Benoni Northerns (BNCC) and Actonville Spurs (ASCC) are raring to go in this action-packed, highly intense format of the game.

BNCC, who were the winners of this tournament earlier this year, will be striving for a similar result over the next three weeks of T20 action.

They are drawn in Pool B with Alberton, Boksburg, CBC Old Boys, Springs Old Boys and Tembisa.

ASCC are drawn in Pool A with Bedfordview, Duduza, Kempton Park, Kwa Thema and United.

They open proceedings on Sunday at 9.30am at their Lords Cricket Grounds home base against Bedfordview followed by an afternoon clash at Willowmoore C versus Duduza at 1.30pm.

They will play Kempton Park at Willowmoore C at 9.30am on October 8 followed by an afternoon encounter with KwaThema at Lords at 1.30pm.

Their final pool match will be against United at Lords at 9.30am on October 15.

BNCC’s Sunday double-headers start at 9.30am versus CBC Old Boys at Northern Areas’ B-Field and will be followed by a clash with Tembisa on the Northern Areas’ A-Field at 1.30pm.

They will play double-headers on October 8 on CBC Boksburg’s A-Field versus Alberton at 9.30am followed by an afternoon fixture against Boksburg at 1.30pm on the same field.

Their final pool game will be on October 15 against Springs Old Boys on CBC Boksburg’s B-field against Boksburg at 9.30am.

Both clubs hope to occupy the Top Two places of their respective pools and advance to the semi-finals later that day at 1.30pm.

The final date is still to be announced.

The league fixtures for Saturday and Sunday club teams are still to be finalised.
