South Africa A to play India A in Benoni

The 2017/2018 cricket season gets underway at Sahara Park Willowmoore with a bit of international flavour.

The cricket stadium will host the first of two four-day games between South Africa A and India A next weekend.

The Benoni match will take place from August 12 to August 15.

Entrance to the ground is free.

This comes after a gruelling tri-series between South Africa A, India A and Afghanistan A.

India will be highly confident after their showing in the tri-series, while South Africa will be bolstered with the inclusion of Aiden Markram, who will also take over the captaincy from Khaya Zondo.

Markram was called in as cover for Faf du Plessis after the Protea skipper missed the first Test match against England at Lord’s due to the birth of his first child.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) did not call back Markram after du Plessis’ return to England and instead, gave the 22-year-old more time with the senior side.

The South African A side will also feature Andile Phehlukwayo and Duanne Olivier who were members of the squad that toured England.

Stephen Cook is also included in the side after being dropped recently.

He will feature alongside other Proteas, namely David Miller and Dane Piedt.

The second four-day match will be played from August 19, at the Groenkloof Stadium in Pretoria.

SA A squad: Aiden Markram (captain), Stephen Cook, Junior Dala, Beuran Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Duanne Olivier, Dane Paterson, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dane Piedt, Omphile Ramela, Rudi Second, Jason Smith, Shaun von Berg and Khaya Zondo.
