Successful Saturday for Benoni Northerns FC

It was a successful Saturday of results for Benoni Northern Football Club’s (BNFC) Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League and Super League Reserve sides, on July 9.

The teams welcomed Germiston City Football Club to Northern Areas and enjoyed wins.

Coach Darren Lee’s BNFC Second XI remained in second position behind Randburg on their league table with a 4-1 victory while coach Jannie van den Berg’s First XI came back from conceding an early goal to eventually thrash their Germiston opponents 8-2.

Van den Berg has, since he took over the reins of the flagship BNFC side, long stressed the need to blood young players rather than worrying about results at this stage.

“We are pushing more and more youngsters into the first side and we have unearthed a few good players,” he said.

“The future looks good.

“Our young Colts side is doing brilliantly and are top of their league while our reserve side is also competing well.

“The young players have been buying into the project and we can only go upwards from here.”

Northerns will be hoping to add another three points when they travel to Boksburg on Saturday, July 15 for their next ELFA Super League clash.

BNFC midfielder Ludick Malele has a shot at goal during the ELFA Super League win over Germiston.
