Hall ready to give her all in Indonesia

Northmead resident and golfing talent Casandra Hall is thrilled to have been given the chance to fly the country’s flag and swing her clubs overseas.

The 17-year-old will represent South Africa at the 2017 Ciputra World Junior Golf Championship at the Damai Indah Golf PIK Course in Jakarta, Indonesia from June 6 to June 9.

Last year, more than 144 competitors from 16 countries competed at the tournament, which has become one of Asia’s most esteemed golf events.

The product of the Grant Veenstra Golf Academy at Ebotse Links told the City Times that she first heard about her selection during the prize-giving for the South African Women’s Open at the Wanderers Golf Club.

“It means a lot to me to be selected for such a prestigious tournament and it is even better that it is in a country that I have not been to yet,” said Hall, who was recently chosen as Women’s Golf South Africa’s (WGSA) “Most Improved Junior Player of the Year”.

“One of my good friends, Caitlyn Macnab, played in the tournament last year.

“I am just expecting to have as much fun as possible, to play to the best of my ability and to learn as much as possible.”

Hall added that the standard of golf in Jakarta is going to be tough.

“I am going to have to show them what I am made of and play well.”

Balancing a budding golf career and a school matric year is no mean feat either.

The teenager, who is busy with her matric year at St Dunstan’s College, said: “I have played a few amateur tournaments this year, but unfortunately not all of them.

“Matric is tough and time management is key.

“I would just like to thank all my coaches and the Grant Veenstra Golf Academy for all the help and dedication to getting me to where I am today.”
