Darryl and Gary join 250 Club

Gary Jackson (Ebotse Parkrun event director) and Darryl Goosen on Saturday, May 6 became members of an illustrious club – Parkrun South Africa’s 250 Club.

The duo, who each completed their 250th event at the Ebotse Parkrun, became two of only five runners in the country who have achieved the feat out of a total of about 600 000 registered Parkrunners nationwide.

Goosen is the first runner from Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) to finish 250 Parkruns.

The Ebotse Parkrun was founded in 2013 and was the third Parkrun in the country.

Iain Morshead, one of the founders of the Ebotse event, praised the two runners for their impressive achievements.

He had particular praise for event director Jackson.

“Gary is here every Saturday morning and is the backbone of this event,” Morshead said.

“It is commendable what he has achieved here considering that there is absolutely no pay involved.”

Parkruns are organised and free, weekly, 5km timed runs held around the world.

They are open to everyone, are free, and are safe and easy to take part in.

These events take place in pleasant parkland surroundings and people of all abilities are encouraged to take part, from walkers or those taking their first steps in running, to Olympians.
