Actonville acknowledges season’s best
Actonville Spurs Cricket Club (ASCC) celebrated the 38th year of the club’s existence on Sunday, May 7 with their annual family fun day and a prize-giving for the recently concluded 2016/2017 Eastern Cricket Union’s season at Lord’s Cricket Grounds.
In his report for the season ASCC chairman Abdul Raheman Data said it had been a trying year for the club, but they had pulled through and once again stand tall.
“We appreciate the assistance we have received from our sponsors, donors and well-wishers,” he said.
“ASCC and Wattville Cricket Club are in the second year of running Cricket South Africa’s RPC (Regional Performance Centre) and this means that it will help our senior and junior coaches to up their skill levels.
“The working relationships with Eastern Cricket, the Eastern Junior Club Cricket Association (EJCCA) and the Ekurhuleni metro grows year on year and we are grateful to have these allies.”
Awards for 2016/2017 season went to the following individuals/teams:
• Saturday Third League: Best Batsman: Muhammed Wadia. Best Bowler: Ridwaan Sookaria.
• Saturday Fourth League: Best Batsman: Ebrahim Ravat. Best Bowler: Suhel Hurzuk.
• Saturday Fifth League: Best Batsman: Daniel van der Merwe. Best Bowler: Denzel Paulson.
• Presidents League: Best Batsman: Jared Naidoo. Best Bowler: Sufyan Patel.
• Promotion League: Best Batsman: Ahamed “Jogee” Mohamed. Best Bowler: Farhaad “Basit” Umarjee.
• Premier League: Best Batsman: Ridwaan Daya. Best Bowler: Wilber van Dyk.
• Service to the Game of Cricket Award: Muhammed Wadia and Suleiman Ghanchi.
• Junior Player of the Year Award: u8 and u-14 teams.
• Emerging Cricketers of the Year: Amit Patel and Mohammed Ghanchi.
• Chairman’s Award: Mohammed Saeed Mehther.
• Senior Players of the Year: Ridwaan Daya and Michael Enslin.
