Bens score six of the best

Old Bens Football Club’s first XI picked up all three points in their Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League clash against Germiston City at Currin Park on Saturday, April 22.

The team bounced back from a 3-2 away defeat to Luso Africa in their previous encounter on Tuesday, April 11.

Coach Raymond Cloete’s Old Bens side went down 1-0 within the opening five minutes, a recurring issue which according to Cloete is “something we need to address as a team”.

Eventually, Cloete’s men found their feet and soon found themselves 3-1 up and then 3-2 up before the halftime break.

“In the second half I changed the formation slightly and that paid off well,” said the coach.

The change in formation bore fruit indeed as the team in gold and black added three more goals to enjoy a 6-2 win.

Goal-scorers on the afternoon were Lesiba Modau (a brace), Themba Sekhukhune, Lasego “Wii Man” Mlangeni and Wesley Wollmer (a brace).

The team was scheduled to play league matches against Corinthians at Currin Park on Freedom Day (Thursday, April 27) before a clash with Boksburg at the Boksburg Stadium on Saturday, April 29.
