Robor Scaffolding excited to get up and running

Having managed water tables over the years at the former SlowMag Marathon and at last year’s Benoni Northerns Marathon, Robor Scaffolding has now taken their relationship with race organisers Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) to the next level by becoming title sponsors of the freshly branded Robor Scaffolding Marathon.

As runners themselves and members of BNAC, Robor Scaffolding’s managing director Perry Todd and the company’s manufacturing manager for scaffolding Chas Todd have 20 Comrades Marathon finishes between them.

Perry, Chas’s father, has the bulk of them, with 17 to his name.

Both are aiming to add another Comrades medal to their collections in 2017.

Asked why the company took the reins as title sponsors Perry said: “We just felt that the time is right to provide the sponsorship.

“The numbers at the race have been increasing and there are a lot more people interested in running these days.

“It is great for us as a company to back an East Rand race and to market ourselves to runners from all over Gauteng, particularly those in the construction industry.

“When you look at the Comrades you will see a lot of scaffolding structures along the route and we will similarly be erecting awesome branded structures at this race.”

Asked what running has done for him, Perry said: “A healthy body is a healthy mind.

“Running gives you good fitness and creates a sense of individual performance.”

Chas followed his father’s lead about five years ago when he took up serious running.

“I have been brought up going to races and it has always been at the back of my head to start running, so I decided to give it a go,” he said.

“As they say ‘once the bug bites it bites hard’.”

Chas Todd arrives at Kingsmead Cricket Stadium in 2016 before completing his third Comrades Marathon.

The Todds encouraged everybody, particularly those interested in running the shorter 5km or 10km distances, to take part.”
