Northerns cruise past Tembisa

Benoni Northerns Cricket Club’s Premier XI made light work of a Tembisa outfit at Willowmoore Park’s B field on Sunday.

The Benoni team put in a clinical performance after skipper Mark Robey won the toss and put the men from Tembisa in to bat.

Opener Enock Makamo was the only player who put up resistance to the Northerns bowlers, with his 24-run contribution.

The next best effort came off the bat of Thulani Tembela, who scored 11.

It was Northerns’ Dan van der Berg who was the pick of the red caps’ bowlers, with figures of 4/8 in 5.3 overs.

He was supported well by Lance Humphrey, who recorded figures of 3/16 in 7 overs, with three maidens to show for his toil.

Robey’s team bowled their opposition out for 61 in 22.3 overs.

Northerns’ run chase came to an end in the 11th over, with them having lost two scalps.

Rhenier Jordaan top scored with 26 not out.

“I think the bowlers stuck to their guns on a wicket that suited bowlers, but they did not give Tembisa a chance to settle at the crease,” said Robey.

Although the skipper will be out of action this coming weekend against Alberton, the team will look to put in a good performance against their opponents who they are likely to play in a play-off, as Kempton Park should finish top of the league standings.
