‘Just one of those days for Old Bens’
Old Bens Football Club’s first XI was defeated 2-1 by Robertsham in the rescheduled ELFA Top Eight pre-season tournament at the Italian Club in Bedfordview.
The match was postponed after heavy rain made fields around the region unplayable on Saturday, February 25.
The weather also forced the ELFA senior leagues to start a week later (Saturday, March 11).
Assistant coach/player Jethson Cloete said: “We had about 60 per cent of the possession, but it was just one of those days for us.
“We missed four or five clearcut chances in the first half and hit the crossbar.
“We also had three good penalty shouts and only had one given to us.”
He added that four regular starters also missed the game.
“We also had some of the guys arrive late and that disrupted our planning.
“That will not be tolerated going into the official season.”
Cloete added that the team is eyeing the league title, but will start with a tough fixture away against Randburg on Saturday.
