Dad and daughter fairytale at BCC

Father John and daughter Kyra van Kan claimed top honours at the Benoni Country Club (BCC) annual club championships over the weekend of March 4 and 5.

“Thankfully the weather was absolutely fantastic and the course lived up to its usual wonderful condition,” said BCC CEO Darren Millington.

The women’s section was closely contended.

After day one Margie de Kock and Susan Andrew were neck and neck with Kylie Traube, who was one shot adrift.

“It was an early start for the women on the Sunday and a blazing round from the 11-year-old Kyra van Kan was just a little too much for the trailing pack,” said Millington.

The young van Kan remarkably went on to take the honours as the BCC’s 2017 women’s club champion.

The men’s section was, on the Saturday, extremely tight at the top of the leader board with a single shot separating the players.

Gareth Landon headed the pack with FG Dorfling, Jordan Prytz and John van Kan the trailers.

On the Sunday, CJ Head fired an exceptional round to get into contention and was the leader in the clubhouse.

John van Kan, who got off to an excellent, start let a few shots get away around the last nine holes, but managed to hole a putt at the 18th to force a play-off with Head.

The play-off, over three holes, was eventually won by van Kan (father of the women’s champion), who claimed the title as club champion for 2017.
