BCT and Caxton are back as marathon media partners

The Benoni City Times and Caxton Local Newspapers are back on board with Benoni Northerns Athletics Club (BNAC) for a second year as the media sponsors for this year’s freshly branded Profix Robor Scaffolding Marathon.

The marathon, which was last year known as the Benoni Northerns Marathon and before that as the Slow-Mag Marathon, will be run for the 25th time from Benoni Northerns Sports Club on the morning of Sunday, April 23.

The race consists of a 5km fun run, 10km, 21.1km half-marathon, 42.2km full marathon and a 50km ultra-marathon through the streets of Benoni’s suburbs on a fast and flat route.

The ultra, full and half marathons will start at 6.30am while the 10km race and family fun run will commence at 6.40pm.

As media sponsors, the BCT and Caxton Local Newspapers strive to provide all the relevant information prior to, during and post-event.

Jan Jordaan, organiser of the Robor Scaffolding Marathon, said: “The media partnership is of great importance to us as the BCT is our voice in Benoni.

“It is the only medium that we can use to inform and invite the citizens of Benoni to take part in this wonderful event.”

Asked about the new title sponsor, Robor Scaffolding, coming to the party, Jordaan added: “It is huge for us.

“The sponsors are runners themselves and they are as excited about this new partnership as what we are.

“The Robor Scaffolding Marathon is going to be one of, if not, the biggest marathon in Gauteng and as they say in the classics ‘watch this space’.”

“It will be terrific if the whole of the Benoni community comes out on April 23 to support us and have fun at the same time.”

Linda Pretorius, branch manager of Caxton’s Central East Division, said: “The City Times has a proud history of serving the community of Benoni and we are thrilled and honoured to once again partner with BNAC as media sponsors for the forthcoming marathon.

“Last year’s marathon saw thousands of locals and visiting runners, along with their families, participating and supporting this successful event.

“We have returned this year to once again connect our readers and audience to this prestigious race and show continued support of our local running community and businesses.”

Kevin van der List, editor of the City Times, said: “The BCT is a proud proponent of a fit and healthy community.

“Running is one of those sports that brings together people from all walks of life.

“We encourage all Benonians and folk from all over to participate on the day.”

The City Times will be providing regular and insightful editorials in the lead up to the race, in both print and digital format, as well as providing readers with the lowdown on affected roads and other factors in the weeks prior to the event.
