BNCC win, ASCC lose

Both Premier League sides of Benoni Northerns (BNCC) and Actonville Spurs (ASCC) cricket clubs were in action on Sunday, February 19.

BNCC, skippered by a returning Rhenier Jordaan, bounced back from last week’s disappointing defeat to United Cricket Club with a commanding 101-run win over Kwa-Thema at Northern Areas.

Northerns batted first and set their opponents 207 runs for victory (opener Richard Thompson top-scoring with 44 runs).

With the ball BNCC wrapped up Kwa-Thema’s batsmen for 105 runs in the 35th over to secure an important bonus-point win.

Reghardt Verster 3/12 in five overs, Kundai Matigimu 2/12 in 6.2 overs and Joshua Thomas 2/7 in six overs stood out with the cherry.

Meanwhile, ASCC travelled to Barnard Stadium in Kempton Park.

Kempton were put into bat and scored 202/7 in 50 overs.

Actonville’s Kyle Lansberg (2/33) and Michael Enslin (2/44) were the outstanding bowlers.

Good bowling from the league leaders saw the Actonville batsmen bowled out for 89 runs.

Ridwaan Daya (18 runs) and Vyasan Govenden (16 runs) were the top-scorers.

BNCC and ASCC will meet in the Benoni cricket derby at Lord’s Cricket Grounds in Actonville on Sunday, February 26.
