Piketh picks up proud record

There’s no doubt about it, Colleen Piketh is a South African lawn bowling superstar.

The Rynfield resident reinforced her status as one of the country’s best with a record-breaking fifth South African Masters title after a 21-9 win over rising talent Jacqueline Janse van Rensburg in the final of the women’s open at the Warwick Bowls SA Masters Singles Championships 2017 held at the Wanderers Club, from February 10 to February 12.

Piketh advanced to the final after winning seven games to top her section.

“To be honest, the score doesn’t really reflect the game and, possibly, it was my experience that pulled me through,” she told the City Times.

“Jacqueline, a club-mate of mine at Bedfordview Bowling Club, did extremely well in her section and only lost one game – so I knew it was going to be tough.”

Although not one to toot her own horn, Piketh said that she is immensely proud of her record-breaking achievement.

“I have been playing in the masters every year since 1999, except for one year when I was overseas, and in that time I have won five gold medals, three silvers and seven bronze medals.”

Piketh now turns her attention to the World Indoor Bowls Championship in Sydney in a few weeks time.
