Paddlers seeded for Dusi
Florida Lake Canoe Club hosted the Tops Spar Dusi seeding race on December 11, on the Gauteng Klip River, from Daleside to Meyerton, with good, forgiving water levels after recent rain storms.
It was the final river race of 2016.
The first East Rand finisher was the indomitable Michael Stewart who finished ninth overall in a time of two hours and 21 minutes as the winner of the sub-master age category.
Other achievers from the Ekurhuleni Kayak Club (ERK), based at Homestead Dam, included Jarryd Breeds (two hours and 29 minutes) as the 15th K1 (single boat), and u-18 Liam Stewart, seconds later, as the second junior finisher overall.
ERK’s Vincent Buttrick finished as the first great grand master (over 65) in a time of three hours and 12 minutes.
