Actonville defeat Tembisa by 38 runs

Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s Premier XI got winning momentum back when they defeated Tembisa Cricket Club at Lord’s Cricket Grounds on Sunday, November 27.

Tembisa won the toss on the morning and elected to field first.

Actonville had an excellent opening partnership, but lost some wickets in the middle overs.

Good batting by the recently out of form Mark Pearce (51) and Ridwaan Daya (44), who continued his recent performances with the willow, stabilised the home team’s innings.

The lower order stood firm again, with Jacques Nel (26 runs) putting in a good display.

The team ended on 186 all out.

Tembisa’s Enock Makamo (2/17) and Revat Naidoo (2/23) were the best bowlers.

Tembisa came into bat after lunch, with some aggressive batting by Zwelo Ntsimbini (31) and Enock Mokamo (26), but Actonville’s young bowlers only needed the slightest of openings and got the openers out.

Tembisa were quickly in trouble and Spurs had their guests on the ropes, with the score at 79/6.

Lower order resistance from Tembisa’s Busang Mthemba (28 runs) held up the inevitable.

Tembisa were bowled out for 148.

Actonville’s young gun bowlers, Michael Enslin (4/44), Wilber Van Dyk (3/10) and Premier League debutant Nyiko Baloyi (3/35), did all the talking with the ball – as Actonville won by 38 runs.

They’ll play their last fixture of 2016, when they host Springs Old Boys at Lord’s on Sunday, December 4.
