Five on the bounce for Benoni Northerns

Benoni Northerns Cricket Club’s (BCC) Premier XI made it five wins in as many matches when they dismantled Duduza Cricket Club, with little fuss, on Sunday, November 27.

BNCC won the Eastern Premier League fixture, which was relocated from Willowmoore Park A to St Dunstan’s College, by 162 runs, and secured an ever important bonus point in the process.

The team, second in the league behind Kempton Park, did not feel the loss of the few regular starters missing from the line-up, and those who were elevated from the Promotion League structures proved more than capable.

Wicketkeeper/batsman Richard Thompson, who opened for BNCC, played a gem of an innings, which saw him raise his bat in celebration of a Premier League century.

His score of 101 runs was the second ton by a Northerns Premier League player this campaign, after Ernest Kemm’s 105 runs versus Tembisa in the season opener.

He was ably supported by number three batsman Tian van der Walt, who notched up 80 runs of his own.

Their efforts, along with a quick 27 runs from young debutant Aron Visser, helped the team to a score of 283/6.

Duduza never really threatened with the bat and were eventually wrapped up within the 38th over.

Fast bowler Lance Humphrey is hitting his straps again, after recent injuries with some fiery quick bowling.

The paceman picked up 3/20 in nine overs, while teammates Mark Robey (1/42 in eight overs), Stefan Jordaan (1/10 in four overs), WP Myburgh (1/8 in five overs), van der Walt (1/1 in one over) and Visser (who claimed his first Premier League wicket with his first ball and the final delivery of the match) got in on the action.

BNCC skipper Kurt Francis praised his side for another clinical performance.

“Every game we have different players who are putting their hands up, which is a winning formula in my eyes.

“We need to stay focused with one more game to play for the year and then we can head off for a well deserved break and a fresh start next year,” he said.

That last game for 2016 will be played away against Boksburg Cricket Club, at PG Park, on Sunday, December 4.
