Actonville oust Duduza by 74 runs

Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s (ASCC) Premier XI have quietly been going about their business in the Eastern Premier League, with good wins in recent matches.

The team enjoyed their third away win in the first five weeks of league competition, with a 74-run victory over Duduza Cricket Club at Willowmoore Park’s A-field on Sunday October 30.

Stand-in skipper Michael Enslin (taking charge of the team while regular captain Kyle Degambur donned the colours of Easterns, in the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge cross-pool match versus South Western Districts at Willowmoore’s main oval) won the toss and opted to bat first.

That decision proved to be the right one as his batsmen steered the team to 220/7 in their 50-over innings, despite losing their first wicket with just 26 runs on the scoreboard.

A third-wicket stand between Ridwaan Daya (31 runs) and Vyshan Govenden (24 runs) helped steady the ship, but that famous old cricket adage of “one brings two” came true with the loss of two quick wickets, to leave the side staggering at 115/4.

Mekyle Pillay and Kyle Lansberg helped get the innings slightly back on track before another two wickets were claimed, leaving ASCC at 151/6.

Wilber van Dyk (17 not out) and Jacques Nel (45 not out) teamed up to put together an excellent 70-run seventh-wicket partnership, that would set up a challenging target of 225 for Duduza.

Actonville had little fuss with the cherry and wrapped up Duduza for 152 in the 46th over.

Enslin (3/9 in five overs), Lansberg (2/25 in nine overs), van Dyk (2/34 in 10 overs) and Nel (2/17 in 3.4 overs) did the damage with the leather.

• Meanwhile, Actonville’s Promotion League XI suffered a 33-run defeat to United Cricket Club at Hosking Park “B” on Sunday.
