Actonville achieve exciting away win

After their first away defeat to Alberton on Sunday, October 2 Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s (ASCC) Premier XI bounced back in thrilling fashion away to Bedfordview Cricket Club on Sunday, October 9.

Stand-in skipper Michael Enslin’s team pulled a victory from almost out of nowhere against the new boys in the Eastern Premier League.

Bedfordview’s skipper Jason Smith won the toss and put Actonville in to bat on a tricky wicket.

Actonville’s young batsmen played plenty of loose shots and were bowled out for 133.

Ridwaan Daya top-scored with 42 runs followed by Enslin with 29 runs.

Bedfordview stepped in to bat just before lunch and the Actonville bowlers showed that they were on target by restricting the batsmen to 18/3 at the break.

After lunch Actonville’s bowlers kept it tight, but Bedfordview’s batsmen were in cruise mood.

Bedfordview needed 30 runs with six wickets still in hand before the Actonville bowlers came to life and bowled out their hosts for 111 to win the match by 23 runs.

Daya (4/12) and Jacques Nel (3/11) were the star performers with the leather for ASCC.
