Playing in the Queens Cup (75 years old and above age category), the Rynfield resident led a team consisting of Jackie Zylstra (KwaZulu-Natal), Reiko Murase (Gauteng Central) and Lynnette Thurston (Gauteng North).

The trophy, a Rosewater Dish, was first presented by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) seniors committee in 2002, in St Kanzian, Austria.

“The competition was extremely tough and strong.

“They play on clay a lot more than we do and play a lot more international grading tournaments that we cannot afford to attend.”

Asked why she would recommend the sport of tennis to newcomers, she said: “You can play tennis on your own against a wall.
