See your cricketing heroes at Willowmoore

Three players could earn their first One Day International (ODI) caps when the Proteas take on Ireland at Sahara Park Willowmoore on Sunday, September 25.

Andile Phehlukwayo, Temba Bavuma and Dwaine Pretorius are in line to make their debuts in the ODI format for South Africa against the Irish, which will get underway at 10am.

Phehlukwayo has been picked for the following series with Australia while Bavuma and Pretorius have only been included for the one-off game against Ireland.

Eastern Cricket Union CEO Cassim Suliman told the City Times that a packed house is expected in Benoni and that many tickets have already been purchased online.

He predicted that many more spectators will purchase their tickets at the gates on Sunday.

“It will be fantastic to open the season with the Proteas, Irish and Australians in town and we just hope that the weather will play nicely,” he said.

The Proteas last appeared at Willowmoore against Pakistan on Sunday, March 23, 2013 when AB de Villiers’s 95 not out off 111 deliveries steered the team to a 3-2 ODI series win in front of a jam-packed Benoni crowd.

The South African squad for the Ireland ODI: AB de Villiers (captain), Temba Bavuma, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy, Faf du Plessis, David Miller, Chris Morris, Wayne Parnell, Aaron Phangiso, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada.

Although a large crowd is expected on Sunday slightly fewer attendees are anticipated when the Australians take on Ireland at the same venue on Tuesday, September 27, due to it being a work day.

This match will start at 10am and cricket fans could possibly get a glimpse of Australian stars like Steven Smith, David Warner and Aaron Finch.

If you are the boss at work then expect a few cricket-loving employees to call in sick on Tuesday morning.

Tickets for both matches can be purchased online at www.ticketpros.co.za or at the stadium on the days.
