Benoni Country Club, Daveyton Golf Club become partners with reciprocation agreement

A formal reciprocity agreement has been signed between the Benoni Country Club (BCC) and Daveyton Golf Club.

The latter club has, since Friday, September 2, become the sole partner to BCC.

The agreement allows members of the respective clubs full reciprocity at each facility, where they will be entitled to members’ green fees and other benefits given to both clubs’ members at their facilities.

One of the agreements listed in the contract states that BCC will host the Daveyton league teams that compete in the Ekurhuleni Golf Union’s (EGU) leagues for the duration of the agreement, or such time as it takes for the Daveyton course to be playable for league games.

It was further agreed that junior golfers from Daveyton could also be called up to represent BCC in certain leagues that are hosted by EGU or similar unions, provided that Daveyton Golf Club does not compete in the same leagues.

It was agreed that BCC is not obligated in any way to offer monetary assistance to their new partners and that the BCC CEO, Darren Millington, and his staff will offer assistance with regards to green keeping and guidance with golf-related issues.

Millington told the City Times that, for some time now, BCC has been looking at getting involved in development and transformation.

“We believe that BCC is the closest course to Daveyton and the most accessible for their members,” he said.

“There are already five youngsters who are part of our community programme, but there are also other elements to consider in terms of transformation, like the advancement of caddies and so forth.”

Although golf is the first step of the partnership, BCC is striving to bring development into other sporting codes, such as tennis, squash and lawn bowls, by working with schools and other local clubs.

“This partnership is not just about golf,” added Millington.

“It is the first step and is the easiest for me because I am a golfer and can help them with green keeping, club management and assisting with rebuilding their course.

“We will use our resources to help them wherever possible.

“This is a long-term thing and something that we see going way into the future.

“We are going to throw everything we have at it.”

He added that priority number one is that Daveyton Golf Club retains its identity.

“We really want to do something to help, not just with golf, but with the community in general.”
