Benoni Country Club’s tennis aces conquer the courts

Benoni Country Club’s (BCC) Tennis Championships were held over the weekend.

The championships culminated with a prize-giving on the afternoon of Sunday, August 26 at the club.

The u-10 junior section championship was won by the talented Sarah Moyo.

Moyo beat Denley McCulloch 8-3 in a wonderful match.

“It is fantastic to see the youngsters enjoying the game of tennis here at Benoni Country Club,” said BCC CEO Darren Millington.

“These youngsters are the rising juniors in the club and, for sure, can be viewed as the future stars of tennis in Ekurhuleni.

“BCC has fantastic coaches available for all youngsters and, with the club’s policy of ‘no subscriptions for juniors’, it’s a great way to get started in the sport.”

Parents wanting to get their children started in tennis at the BCC facility can e-mail Millington at darren@benonicc.co.za.

Greg Strecker, coach at BCC, won the men’s singles title.

He recently returned from KwaZulu-Natal and now that he is back in his home town of Benoni is really showing off his ability.

It was a tough three sets again rival Brad Ferreira, but eventually the Benoni coach sealed the win.

Ashley McKenzie, who claimed the women’s singles title, shares a strong bloodline, following in the footsteps of her mother, Kim, and sister, Simone Krog, who have both won the same title in previous years.
