Log leaders Luso lose in Benoni

First-half goals from skipper Wade Marshall and Ernest Makalaka handed Benoni Northerns Football Club’s (BNFC) first XI a 2-0 victory, over league-leading Luso Africa, on Saturday, August 20, at Northern Areas.

Coach Jannie van den Berg’s men (with some young faces in the side again) rose to the challenge in their ELFA Super League clash against the perennial powerhouses and shut out their Primrose-based opponents completely.

Van den Berg said that the result puts the team on a good note going into the “Benoni Derby” on Saturday.

Luso had two players sent off last Saturday, while goalkeeper Skyeler van den Berg also saw red and will miss the derby.

“To be honest, it wasn’t the best game from either team and we played well in patches,” said van den Berg.

“It doesn’t matter if you win ugly and get the result though, especially against a team like Luso.

“I wasn’t happy with some of the referee’s decisions either on the day, but we will move on.”
