Back-to-back wins for BNFC

Benoni Northerns Football Club’s (BNFC) first XI enjoyed another ELFA Super League win this week.

After picking up the three points from a 1-0 victory over Boksburg at home on Saturday, July 16, the team, who welcomed skipper Wade Marshall back to the fold, enjoyed a 3-1 victory on their travels to Corinthians on Saturday, July 23.

According to BNFC coach Jannie van den Berg, the match wasn’t quite a vintage display from his players (they were required to play with 10 men at one stage after a red card was brandished), but picking up the three points was what it was all about at the end of the day.

With Marshall back in the centre of defense the coach could use his star performer, Brogan Shrimpton, in his usual front-man position.

The USA-bound striker proved his goal-scoring prowess with two goals in the match while Dean Steyn converted Northerns’ third from the penalty spot.

The team will be hoping to make it three wins from three matches when they welcome Edenvale to Northern Areas on Saturday, July 30.

The match will kick off at 3.30pm.
