Bens rue missed chances again

Old Bens Football Club’s first XI haves not had it easy in their last three ELFA Super League fixtures.

On Saturday, July 9, at Hattingh Park,in Primrose, coach Raymond Cloete’s men ran out against an always tough opponent, Luso Africa.

Despite Bens leading by a single goal at the half-time break, two second half goals conceded to Luso in five minutes saw them return to Benoni without any points.

“Once again we played good football without reward,” said Cloete.

“We missed a number of excellent chances in the first period, but finally got rewarded, with a good strike from Percy Visagie.”

“Conceding the two goals in quick succession in the second half made it difficult for us to play our normal game, as we had to throw caution to the wind and pursue an all-out attack.

“Again, we missed some good chances.”

Although not happy with the result, Cloete added that he was pleased with his men for giving a 100 per cent effort in the match.

“We now have some hard upcoming fixtures for the next month and will have to be at our best to pick up points,” he said.

“As Benoni Northerns coach Jannie van den Berg suggested a few weeks ago, ‘there are no given results’ with only seven points between third and 10th position.

“We will be back to full strength for next week’s away game against Union.”

• Meanwhile, Old Bens’ reserve XI enjoyed a winning result by beating Luso 1-0.

This result keeps them in the Top Five of the league.
