Ebersohn: ‘It’s just how the business works’

In the world of sport, as in life, there are things that cannot always be guaranteed.

Just ask Benoni Northerns Indians Ball Club’s baseball star Rowan Ebersohn (20), whose time and contract with the Minnesota Twins in the USA came to an end recently.

The Northmead resident, in 2014, put pen to paper on a seven-year contact with the Twins, but has since been cut from the set-up.

The batter and outfielder is, however, modest and accepting of the recent revelations.

Speaking to the City Times he said: “It’s just how the business works.

“It’s tough.

“They [The Twins] signed a whole bunch of new outfielders and, unfortunately, if you bring new players in you have to let some go and that is what happened.”

He added that the experience has been great and that he cannot thank enough the people who made it possible to give him the opportunity.

“Even though it was shorter than expected I still managed to live a bit of my dream and I am truly grateful for that,” Ebersohn said.

Asked what his goals are going forward the former Benoni High School pupil said: “I am still going to stay in shape and keep on playing for my local side [Indians] and I will look forward to the next World Baseball Classic with South Africa.”
