Coach lambastes match officials

Old Bens Football Club’s first team coach, Raymond Cloete, is seething after what he described as “shocking officiating” in the team’s ELFA Super League 3-0 defeat to Highlands Park, away from home, on Saturday, June 25.

The coach said his team was in control for the first 30 minutes of the match, before poor decisions changed the face of the game and led to them having their two central defenders sent off for verbal abuse of officials, after expressing their discontent with decisions and for calling two penalties that should never have been.

“It was a good game until the officials started blowing unbelievable decisions,” Cloete said.

“We should have had three penalties of our own following terrible tackles in their penalty area, but they were simply brushed off.

“Even the referee’s adjudicator who was present at the match couldn’t believe some of the calls made.”

Cloete said he has submitted a report to the Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) for what he deemed “biased officiating”.

“We are not happy,” he added.

“We don’t mind losing games, but not unfairly like that.”

The team will be hoping that things play out better on Saturday, July 2, when they host Kempton Park at Currin Park, at 3.30pm.

Manny Ferreirinho, the ELFA’s referees chairman did not want to comment on the matter stating that the officials’ decisions will stand as is.
