Coach still confident going forward

Although recent results have not been winning ones, Benoni Northerns Football Club’s (BNFC) first team coach Jannie van den Berg is still confident of his side achieving a Top Three finish in the ELFA Super League.

With 14 matches still remaining in the league, van den Berg believes that his side will soon find their feet and achieve the desired results.

“With teams like Luso Africa losing and Old Bens drawing this weekend, it is clear that every team will take points off of each other, so I still believe we can manage a Top Three outcome,” he said.

The team played a catch-up match on Youth Day (Thursday, June 16) and let a 1-0 advantage slip, to lose 2-1 to league newcomers Zwide, at Northern Areas.

They showed good signs in their next home clash, on Saturday, June 18, against Sporting, drawing 3-3.

Tone “Seven” Ndlangamandla, Ernest Makalaka and Stoney Moketsi found the back of the net for BNFC on Saturday.

“Sporting has been on a high-flying run in recent matches, so a draw against them wasn’t the worst result for us,” van den Berg said.

One thing the coach is missing is an out-and-out striker who can stick the ball into the goal on a frequent basis.

“We dominate play and need goals at the right time, to put our opponents out of the game – we are definitely lacking a regular goal-scorer,” he added.

Overall, he said, the team are enjoying their football and will push hard to be better in the second half of the season.

“Internally we are improving; we just need to produce the goods as a collective unit now.”

The team will host Alberton at Northerns, on Saturday, June 25, at 3.30pm.
