Bens keep the good results coming

Old Bens Football Club's first XI continue to be a tough proposition for any team in the ELFA Super League.

Coach Raymond Cloete’s team enjoyed more positive points, with a 1-1 draw away to Robertsham on Freedom Day, Wednesday, April 27 and a 4-1 home win against Sporting on Saturday, April 30.

On Saturday, at Currin Park, Cloete’s team dominated proceedings from the start, with the Old Bens midfielders working hard.

A defensive error from Robertsham allowed Lesiba Modau in to slot home his fifth goal of the campaign.

Just before half-time, a deflected goal allowed Sporting to find an equaliser.

In the second stanza, Old Bens turned up the heat with a second goal, 30 seconds after the interval, from the in-form Modau.

He completed a deserved hat trick, while Lasego “Wii Man” Mlangeni bagged a fourth.

“It was a great result for us, as we had five players missing from the starting line up due to injury and being away for the long weekend,” said Cloete.

“This weekend we travel to Alberton, where we expect another hard away game.”

• The club’s second XI enjoyed a positive result on Saturday, too, with a 2-1 winning score.
