Winning weekend for Northerns hockey
Following a good opening weekend to the Benoni Northerns men's hockey sides’ season in the Southern Gauteng Hockey League, the club continued with their good form this weekend.
On Saturday, April 9, the Benoni Northerns first team stormed to a convincing 5-1 victory over the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) C-Team in Randburg in the Southern Gauteng Hockey Association’s (SGHA) Men’s Winter Performance Reserve League.
David Fink, Peter Tucker, Matthew Trollope, Ryan Goosen and Michael Veliotes all hit the back of the net in the first half.
The club’s second team took on Wanderers G in the SGHA’s Men’s Winter Third League on Sunday, April 10, at Jeppe Boys High School and emerged as the victors with a score of 2-0.
Doug Morton and James Tyrrel scored the goals for the Benoni-based outfit.
