Defending champion Brendan Flynn triumphed again in the men’s A-Division when he successfully secured a one-shot victory over runner-up CJ Head.
Flynn (36) started the second day of the championships sharing the lead with CJ Head and FG Dorfling, but managed to keep his cool, despite the heat, to card a final round 70.
“The weather was extremely hot, but so was the golf,” said Flynn.
The challenge continued right up to the 18th hole, where Head missed a putt to force a play-off where Flynn sunk a short birdie putt to secure the one-shot win.
Thanking the greenkeeping staff for an immaculate course and beautiful greens, he dedicated his win to his late father.
“Winning for a second time really makes me feel like I belong, and I know that my dad would have been thrilled to see me lift the trophy for the second year in a row.”
Final results (Top three): 1 Brendan Flynn 143 (73, 70), CJ Head 144 (73, 71), FG Dorfling 150 (73, 77).
In the women’s field it was 11-year-old sensation Kiera Floyd who repeated her 2014 and 2015 victories in some style by carding an incredible 147 over the two-day tournament to secure her third club champion victory.
In a class of her own, Floyd left the field behind and achieved the biggest women’s victory in BCC history.
Final results (Top three): 1 K Floyd 137 (74, 73), 2 C Pike 175 (91, 84), 3 S Baugh 181 (88, 93).
