Spurs sink Springs

Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s Premier XI headed to Springs on Sunday, February 21 for an Eastern Premier League clash.

Coach Thomas Pekane’s players were striving to bounce back from defeat to CBC Old Boys the week prior with victory away from home.

After winning the toss, Actonville elected to field on a slightly damp wicket.

The team had Springs Old Boys in serious trouble at 35/4, but resistance was provided through Cameron Birnie (59) and Gusto van Heerden (30 not out).

The visitors bowled out their allotted 50 overs and restricted Old Boys to 143/9 with Farhaad Umarjee (2/9) and Ridwaan Daya (2/16) the pick of the Actonville bowlers.

With the bat, the team adopted an aggressive approach from the outset and gave Springs no chance of putting the Actonville team under any serious pressure.

Kyle Degambur (50) and CJ van der Walt (48 not out) led the charge with the willow as they placed more misery on the hapless Springs Premier League team by winning by seven wickets and a bonus point.
