Lack of partnerships cost Actonville

Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s (ASCC) Premier XI gave their weekend opponents, CBC Old Boys, a tough time when they met in the Eastern Premier League at CBC College in Boksburg, on Sunday, February 14.

The team seemingly benefited from winning the coin toss on a bowler-friendly wicket as they had CBC in trouble early at 36/4.

A good partnership between Mark Pearse (53) and Willie Bernhardt (23) helped rescue the situation for the hosts.

At 86/7 Actonville’s bowlers were doing a terrific job, but a few lapses in the field allowed CBC to reach 149 all out.

Farhaard Umarjee (6/24) and Ridwaan Daya (2/17) did the bulk of the damage with the ball for Actonville.

The visitors went in to bat before lunch and lost a wicket.

They struggled to formulate any partnerships of significance and, despite the efforts of Kyle Degambur (35) and Ridwaan Daya (22), were bowled out for 101 to give CBC Old Boys a valuable win in their quest for a top three league position.
