Actonville achieve four-wicket win

Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s (ASCC) Premier XI bounced back from their defeat in the Benoni cricket derby last weekend to enjoy a four-wicket win over Duduza at Lords Cricket Grounds on Sunday, February 7.

The hosts won the toss and decided to bowl first on a slow Lords wicket.

The move seemed to be a good one as the visiting team was in trouble with two early wickets falling.

This was until a good third-wicket partnership formed between Dylan Stanley (62 runs) and Musa Twala (26) left the match finely balanced.

Actonville’s spinners would take control in the middle of the innings.

Wilber van Dyk (4/23) was the pick of the home side’s bowlers followed by Clayton August (3/21) and Ridwaan Daya (1/20) restricting the visiting team to 145 all out.

When Actonville came in to bat they lost a quick wicket before lunch.

An excellent second-wicket partnership ensued between Curtly Wewers and Kyle Degambur steadied the chase.

The third-wicket partnership between Degambur (52) and CJ van der Walt (45 not out) nearly took the team home.

ASCC, however, lost some quick wickets but Actonville survived with a four-wicket win.
