Smith showcases his stuff in the States

Rynfield resident Slade Smith (14) took part in the Mini O’s Thor Winter Olympics, in Florida, in the USA, in November last year.

The exceptional rider participated in the event for the fifth year in succession and came away with phenomenal results against 3 000 of the best riders in the USA.

He raced in three classes of both Supercross and Motocross, totalling six classes.

Smith achieved a third overall position in the 85 (12-13) Limited Motocross Class (an outstanding performance at that level of racing).

His lap times were right up there with the leaders and he was also the first Husqvarna rider home in his class against the US factory riders

It is short and fast racing, and good starts are imperative, of which Smith was able to get one holeshot.

Racing on his ABE Midas 85cc Husqvarna, he attained his goal of achieving a podium position in a class.

This superb result has opened up many doors for the Benonian and he leaves in March to take part in the Daytona Amateur Supercross Series in Florida, and then on to the Freestone Amateur Series in Texas, at the end of March.

He hopes to, one day, race professionally in the USA.
