Youthful Spurs succumb to Duduza

A youth-injected Actonville Spurs Cricket Club Premier XI will be disappointed to have been downed by Duduza on Sunday, November 29.

The two sides met at Willowmoore Park ‘B’ in an Eastern Premier League encounter ,which went the way of Duduza by 60 runs.

It was a symbolic day for the local club, from a developmental point of view, as they handed debuts to 14-year-old Saahil Khan and 15-year-old Mohammed Ghanchi.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Duduza were off to a flying start with the willow until Actonville’s semi-professional player and team captain, Clayton August, had them pegged back.

Their opponents would end on 154/10, with August claiming figures of 4/32 and Mekyle Pillay with statistics of 2/39.

Actonville’s batsmen struggled when they stepped into the crease and were in big trouble after losing six wickets with not many runs on the scoreboard.

Fresh-faced Ganchi was the top scorer, with 21 not out, as his team were eventually bowled out for 94.

Dylan Stanley was the star man with the ball for Duduza, claiming bowling figures of 4/22.

Zunaid Seedat, public relations officer for Actonville Spurs Cricket Club, said: “The club feels vindicated with the youngsters’ selection and genuinely believe that they will bring an added injection of youthful zest to an already young squad.

“This serves as proof of the club’s promise of developing our own young guns.

“There will definitely be more to come from these young men in the long run, and there is certainly more to come from our youth department.”

The match concluded the team’s first half of fixtures for the 2015/2016 campaign.
