Actonville win with a bonus

Following a tough day out in the Benoni cricket derby against Benoni Northerns, last weekend, Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s Premier XI were in the mood to return to winning ways when they played KwaThema at Willowmoore Park B, on Sunday, November 22.

In the Eastern Premier League clash, it was KwaThema who won the toss and elected to field first.

The move initially appeared to be a smart one, as Actonville lost early wickets and were reduced to 59 runs for three wickets.

Then came a 100-run partnership between Ridwaan Daya (100) and CJ van der Watt (49).

Daya’s ton was the first of the season for the club.

His century would allow the team to take control of the middle and end overs of the innings and they ended on 233/6 in their 50 overs.

Musa Mancede was KwaThema’s best bowler, with figures of 4/32.

He would also be their best performer with the willow, as his team was eventually bowled out for 153.

Their innings had little stability and Actonville’s spin bowlers took control with miserly efforts.

Young Wilber van Dyk impressed with a five-wicket haul (5/43), while seam bowler Hussain Shakeel Ahmed was the next best with the ball, with statistics of 2/29.

The display ensured an 80-run bonus point victory for the team from Lords Cricket Grounds.

  • Meanwhile, the Actonville Spurs Promotion League XI a made it a KwaThema double whammy, with an 83-run win on Sunday.

Sufyaan Hussain (54 runs) starred with the bat and bowler Saahil Khan stood out with the ball, with four wickets for 20 runs.

The club’s Directors team won their game against Kempton Park ‘B’ by four wickets.
