Independiente impress again

Actonville-based football club SCB Independiente has done it again.

The club’s u-18 team followed on from the success of their first team counterparts and had their most magnificent year yet in the 2014/2015 season, sweeping all before them.

The team won 19 of their 20 league games, scoring 80 league goals in the process of being crowned BCLFA 2015 u-18 champions.

This success follows on from three other major achievements by the team in 2014 and 2015.

They won the 2014 BSLFA U-15 League and followed this up with an excellent win in the U-17 2015 Masonic Easter Cup Tournament.

At the beginning of October, the side went unbeaten at the annual Bernard Parker Football Challenge.

The team’s Kyle Simons also won Best Player of the Tournament, Riyaadh Raju won the Top Goal-Scorer Award.

SCB Independiente won the overall Team of the Tournament (among 80 participating teams) for discipline, fair play and creativity on the field.

The team have now played in 74 games across two seasons, winning 70 games across two different LFA League friendly, cup and tournament games.

Acting general manager of the team Ismail Nanabhay said: “The effort that the players and teams have put in on the training field has paid off on the field of play, with four major honours being brought home across teams within the club.

“We can only grow from the 2015 effort and get better as a club, developing football from grassroots to seniors.”

Head coach Shahed Mahomed added that the talent coming through from u-14 to u-18 will serve the club well in the future.

“The strength of the first team will continue to grow as we push up youngsters to that team,” he said.
