Benoni not big enough for KP?

The opening day Ram Slam T20 Challenge match between The Unlimited Titans and the Sunfoil Dolphins, which was scheduled to be played at Benoni’s Willowmoore Park on Sunday, November 1, has been moved to the Titans’ headquarters at SuperSport Park, in Centurion.

The franchise recently decided to swap the November 1 date and venue with the Titans’ vs the bizhub Highveld Lions match, which was initially scheduled to be played in Centurion on Friday, December 4.

This move means that Benoni cricket supporters will, instead, enjoy a bumper weekend of cricketing action in early December, with another Ram Slam T20 clash (Titans vs the VKB Knights) taking place at Willowmoore Park on Sunday, December 6.

The change in venues coincides with the much-anticipated debut of former England batsman Kevin Pietersen (KP), for the Sunfoil Dolphins.

When asked why the the franchise decided to move the match to Centurion, Titans CEO Jacques Faul explained that it was purely based on capacity and economic reasons.

“We have probably swapped 15 game venues around in the last 15 years, so it is not uncommon,” he told the City Times.

“As much as we love Willowmoore Park, there is a huge marketing spin on this game, so we looked at what is better in terms of LSM, market position and television coverage.

“Cricket South Africa would also like to go big on marketing this particular match, and the fact that KP is set to make his debut adds to its appeal.”
