Batting collapse leads to loss

Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s (ASCC) Premier XI hosted CBC Old Boys, at Lords Cricket Grounds, on Sunday, October 11.

The hosts knew they would be in for a tough encounter against last season’s third best Easterns Premier League side.

Actonville batted first and lost two early wickets before a mini partnership between young Wilbur van Dyk (34) and Kyle Degamber (28) steadied the innings.

Things were going smoothly until a dramatic (and almost customary) batting collapse resulted in ASCC posting just 106 runs.

George Viviers picked up bowling statistics of 5/28 for CBC Old Boys,

The visitors started their chase really well and went hard at the Actonville bowlers.

Two wickets provide the slimmest of hopes to the home side, but Wickus Germishuize’s 51 not out and Nicolas Lockyer’s 22 dashed those hopes and thrashed Spurs by seven wickets.

The team will aim to bounce back when they go to Willowmoore Park for a clash against Tembisa, on Sunday, October 18.

Influential skipper and talented all-rounder Clayton August is expected to make his return after being away on provincial duty.

Farhaad Omarjee scored 50 runs and Mohammed Ghanchi notched up 39.

The pick of the ASCC bowlers were Omarjee (2/21) and Saahil Khan (2/18).
