One step closer to Rio

Benonian and para-dressage horse rider Wendy Moller recently took part in the South African Dressage Championships, in Kyalami.

The event was compulsory for all riders who want to be considered for the 2016 Olympic Games, in Rio de Janeiro, by SASCOC.

The rider, who was the country’s top equestrian competitor at the 2012 Olympics, in London, and her 25-year-old horse, Willows Rafiki (the oldest horse at the event), overcame extremely stiff competition to place third overall for the team test and second for the individual championship.

The dynamic duo also won the musical freestyle category, with a score of 69.7 per cent.

Moller will travel to Europe in the early part of 2016, to qualify her horse, “First Lady”, a borrowed horse stabled in Belgium, due to the strict movement and quarantine protocols placed on African horses, due to African Horse Sickness.

In order to do that, the Benonian Paralympian will need the help of sponsorships to get her to Europe.
