The Kempton Park resident and pupil at Maranatha Christian School, started at Harriers in January and has rapidly blossomed under the watchful coaching eye of club running captain Dawie du Toit.
On Saturday, August 1, Tarr placed first in the u-15 cross-country event in Ermelo and was issued with her South African Christian Schools national colours.
On Saturday, August 29, the young runner qualified for a national entry after placing first in both the 800m and 1 500m events.
A fortnight later, on September 12, the promising athlete participated in the invitational athletics event at the University of Pretoria, where she again stormed home to first position in both events in the u-15 age group.
She will take part in the South African Christian Schools national event on September 25 and 26.
“When I run I let all my problems out and feel free,” she told the City Times.
“I love running for Benoni Harriers.
“They are extremely positive at the club and always motivate and encourage me to do better.”
The youngster’s running dreams are to one day represent South Africa at the Olympics and to finish the Comrades Marathon.
She offered this advice to those who would like to take up the sport: “You have to start somewhere and once you start running you’ll never stop.”
- Benoni Harriers Athletics Club has recently appointed a coach who will train juniors at the club.
He is finalising a training programme for 800m and 1 500m junior runners and all youngsters are welcome to become a part of the club (juniors at Benoni Harriers do not pay membership fees).
