Daveyton display dynamic rugby

In recent weeks, the City Times has been telling the story of the blossoming Daveyton Rugby Academy and the Daveyton Vuttas.

Things went up a level for the rugby players from Sinaba Stadium recently, when they played their first exhibition match against a well established side from Soweto, as a curtain-raiser to the final of the provincial Coke/University of Johannesburg Trophy, between Krugersdorp’s Monument and Menlo Park, from Pretoria, recently.

Although the Daveyton team was defeated 16-10 by Soweto, they showed that they can play good rugby.

According to St Dunstan’s College’s Jaco Coetzer, the programme manager of the Daveyton Rugby Development Programme, the spectators in attendance were blown away by the quality of rugby on display from the Daveyton players.

“Now things will go in the right direction, but we need companies and people to assist us with the building of the next phase,” he said.

Coetzer will also be hosting a BokSmart coaches’ course on Saturday, September 26, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

The course is open to potential rugby coaches (all ages, races and sexes).
