Development rugby on display

In July, the City Times told the tale of the burgeoning Daveyton Rugby Development Programme, at the Sinaba Stadium.

This is giving players and coaches from the township the opportunity to develop and grow in the sport, and a positive local spin on local grassroots development.

The initiative, spearheaded by a partnership between St Dunstan’s College and the Daveyton Soccer Academy, has grown tremendously, with more and more prospective rugby players attending clinics at the stadium.

On Saturday, August 29, an open day was held, for special role players to showcase the programme at the 10th and final clinic of the season.

The coaches, most of whom are teachers within the Daveyton community, were handed certificates, having been trained in the level one phase of World Rugby’s Rugby Ready course, as well as the South African Rugby Union’s (Saru) BokSmart course.
